Newton Fund CSSP Brazil research - Meteorological driving data for offline land surface and impacts simulations (deadline: 15th November 2017)

The Climate Science for Service Partnership (CSSP) Brazil is seeking submissions on developing methods and datasets of meteorological forcing data for land-surface model simulations to span historical and future periods.

Newton FundThe research will seek to develop methodology to extend historical datasets of meteorological driving data required for offline land-surface models. Specific focus will be on enabling the ability to extend existing offline ensembles (such as TRENDY) into the near future using initialised seasonal and decadal predictions.

Anticipated outputs include:

  • Tested and documented methodology for producing forcing data for land-surface models across observed and projected time periods
  • Routinely produced forcing data to extend TRENDY simulations beyond present day using seasonal forecast, decadal forecast and centennial projection data.

These grants offer £90,000 of funding to be applied between 1st April 2018 and 31st March 2019.

This opportunity is offered by the Newton Fund Weather and Climate Science for Service Partnership Programme, which comprises projects designed to build the basis for strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to weather and climate variability, supported by the UK government's Newton Fund.
