This will be an interdisciplinary and highly interactive meeting, designed to inspire new ways of addressing the challenges of food security at a practical level. By convening a diversity of subject experts and allowing time for meaningful discussions, we aim to generate novel, practical solutions.
A small number of high profile speakers will present specific food security-related challenges faced in India and Africa, on the themes of:
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sustainable Agriculture
- Food Supply Chains and Trade
- Gender, Nutrition and Policy
Talks will be followed by panel discussions and workshops.
We encourage you to attend if your research or practice is relevant to these topics, and to contribute your views and expertise to help drive positive change. Early Career Researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts for posters or flash talks on the themes of the meeting.

Day one will consist of keynote talks and presentations of specific challenges.
Day two will consist of two parallel workshops. The key messages derived from day one will be discussed, with a focus on generating practical solutions that can be implemented at a local level to drive change.
Attendance on day two (9 April) is optional; please mark your registration accordingly. It will involve participation in either:
- Workshop A: an invitation-only workshop that is intended to lead to a published paper summarising key elements for future focus;
- Workshop B: an open workshop focused on generating pilot projects, the best of which will be awarded seed funding (early career researchers are encouraged).
Early Career Researchers – Flash Presentations and Posters
We encourage PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to attend and network at the Symposium.
The programme will include a session dedicated to 3-minute flash presentations by early career researchers, and a poster exhibition. Posters must cover research within one of the three themes of the Symposium.
The call for abstracts for Flash Presentations and Posters is now open.
Please send your name, title of talk or poster, and a short summary of what you will present (max. 100 words) to coordinator@globalfood.cam.ac.uk by 1st March.

Single or twin en-suite bedrooms at Clare College can be booked as part of your registration process. All rooms will be available from 3pm on the day of arrival.
This event is organised by the Cambridge Global Food Security IRC (Programme Manager: Jacqueline Garget) and the GCRF-funded TIGR2ESS programme (Programme Manager: Rose Eichenberger).
