Focus of the visit: Research priorities at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Namibia

 

About Professor Frank Kavishe

Professor Frank Kavishe is a Chartered Engineer who has extensively worked in Eastern and Southern Africa.
 
He is the Founding Dean of the University of Namibia (UNAM)'s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and has served this and many other leadership roles within UNAM.  Some notable examples are immense contribution to resource mobilization, academic seniority and extensive experience with industry collaboration and UNAM's international.

 

About Professor Frank Kavishe's visit to Cambridge

Co-hosted by Professor Catherine Rae at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, Frank will be representing the following research priorities at UNAM's Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology:

  • Introducing effective technologies for long term sustainability in water supply at community level using small-scale desalination plants to treat underground brackish water. 
  • Mapping of underground water resources in Namibia using remote sensing techniques such as ground penetrating radar coupled with electro-magnetic techniques. 
  • Flood management, including water catchment infrastructure. 
  • Application of renewable energy mainly in rural communities using solar photovoltaics and wind energy. 
  • Other project with significant positive impact to communities and the society at large.
