An increasing proportion of the global population lives in urban areas where exposure to air pollution is significantly elevated. Along with this, many people around the world do not have access to safe water and sanitation which is essential to human health. This could be as a result of economic instability or a lack of infrastructure. A multi-disciplinary approach to address the issues relating to air pollution, drinking water and sanitation will help to drive innovation and develop solutions to mitigate the impacts of global change. It is not only important to ensure that everyone across the globe has access to clean air, water and sanitation but there must be strategies for their sustainable management.
