Although some parts of the world have achieved and maintained increased levels of peace and security in recent decades, many countries still face conflict and violence. A good democratic government is essential for providing a framework of social cohesion in which people can live in a safe and peaceful society. Developed societies can help to produce stability through understanding the causes of conflict and the ways in which initial unrest builds up to larger scale violence. Strategies for effective peace negotiations and initiatives are key for countries to achieve peaceful and inclusive societies.
