The Global Energy Nexus in Urban Settlements (GENUS) research group is launched at University of Cambridge

The new interdisciplinary research group, which spans four departments in Cambridge (Geography, Engineering, Architecture and the Judge Business School), aims to conduct research on sustainable and innovative forms of energy for urban dwellers and to implement an interdisciplinary approach to research that both values and critiques disciplinary difference.

World Bank Group’s Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility (PEF) makes first $12 million commitment to bridge financing gap for Ebola response in DRC

The World Bank Group’s Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility (PEF) today made its first-ever financial commitment, approving a $12 million grant towards the current Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The grant, approved today at an emergency meeting of the PEF Steering Body, will be made from the Cash Window of the PEF.

As one of the first cross-council interdisciplinary initiatives, The Environmental and Social Ecology of Human Infectious Diseases Initiative (ESEI) was developed to respond proactively to the global problem of potential pandemic, epidemic and emerging infectious diseases. Five years on, MRC Programme Manager Morven Roberts shares lessons learnt from the initiative about how to foster future waves of interdisciplinary research.
