The Wellcome Trust (WT) invites applications for the University Awards in Humanities and Social Science scheme.

Objective

University Awards enable universities to attract, or retain, outstanding research staff at an early or mid-stage in their careers by providing support for up to five years at lecturer, senior-lecturer or reader level. After this, it is expected for the researcher to take up a permanent position at the academic organisation.

Eligibility

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent experience, and have built up a competitive track record in a relevant area of research. Applicants who hold a permanent academic post are not eligible to apply for this award.

Funding level

Funding includes up to five years support, providing full salary for 3 years, 50% in the year 4 and 25% in year 5. It also includes personal removal expenses, research expenses for the first three years and travel expenses to attend meetings for the full duration of the award.

Special conditions

The candidate must be nominated by the prospective Head of Institution (Department/Faculty/Institute) and have an undertaking from the Vice-Chancellor demonstrating the University’s commitment to their research field, and that the University will provide 50% salary costs in year four, 75% in year five and full salary at the end of the award.

Requests for support letters must reach the Cambridge University Research Office no later than 15 June 2018.
